Florida has always been a wonderful place to live and vacation. With 1350 miles of coastline, more than 7700 ski lakes, six major metropolitan areas and 18,150,000 (full and seasonal) residents, Florida is a diverse state with sunny, pleasant climate through most of the year. This is why millions of people live here despite the high cost of housing and homeowner insurance, a discriminatory property tax system, St. Augustine grass with cinch bugs and brown patch, and the hurricane season.
We moved to Florida in 2004 to be closer to my wife's wonderful mom. We experienced many cost of living surprises on relocating to Florida and have learned about Florida life the hard way. This site was developed to help you plan and avoid many of the problems most transplants experience. The website provides unbiased information and perspectives on Florida taxes, association fees, homeowner insurance costs, landscaping and home maintenance costs.
